What have you done with yours recently pt2

Post by Wally on Tue Aug 21, 2012 5:57 am

Thought I'd resurrect this topic, as it's that time in the season where scooters being complaining and dieing. So what's up with your scoots?

Having kicked the arse out of my scoot all season it finally decided it'd had enough about 20 miles into the trip round Cornwall and started moaning at me to get my hands dirty. Numerous bodges and kind words got me down to Land's End and back, but I've had to treat it to a new tank, tap and fuel line, CDI, Stator and exhaust this evening...

Everything standard? Or a nice new performance exhaust?

I have done nothing since I bought it just over two weeks ago.
Although within those two weeks I've ridden it just under 800 miles and its doing well Smile

That's good going lad. Hopefully you'll not have to touch yours for a good while. But do you see what I meant now - it's fucking brilliant when stuff works. Makes the shite times fade quickly Very Happy

Just banged the old standard pipe on. Fuck me, it feels weird but it's quieter and pulls a bit better lower down the revs. Plans are to get the polini sorted and banged together over winter for next season. Engine is overdue a good overhaul and rebuild.

You'll never get it working unless you're nice to it Jord. I managed to coax mine round cornwall by telling it how sexy it was, and that I'd give it some loving when we got back home

Since riding tuned lambrettas, I really do doubt many T5s can do mych more than high 60s TBH standard. And that's on a good day.

T5s are fast, but they ain't. But if I was doing just over 80mph on a ts1 doing just over 20bhp, 75ish on a rapido doing 17.9bhp. Something putting out 11bhp, is doing fantastic to break 70mph.

could ya get the same outta a 225 kitted vespa or a 210 or would it always fall short of the lamies?

just cos imo vespa's look nicer so i'd rather have a vespa that does those sorta speeds than a lammy

My orange one is about 15bhp and can do (with my head reet down) 85mph.

A lammy will always have the upper hand too a lardy vespa. Apart from the new breed of smallblock px kits which are promising. but still out the box a lammy will piss over you.
Vespa 225's imo are a waste of time. the majority of builds ive seen are changed back to standard stroke after a while to 210 as they have a better top end.
If you put the work in and correct the port timings it could be worth doing tho
