    Seal Gone???

Post by 2ToneJake on Thu Oct 04, 2012 9:29 pm

Started scoot up earlier and the revs seemed quite racey (usually the revs build a little bit then go down after 20 seconds or so) and there was shit loads of really thick white smoke coming from exhaust, a lot more than usual

i also noticed gear oil dripping onto the top of me exhaust but im not sure where abouts it was coming from - was deffo gear oil and not 2 stroke though

is it a seal or is it just summit real simple (fingers crossed)

Could be a main seal failure. Drain some of the gear oil, if its full of petrol and check your plug colour (black/oily?) Then this will be the main seal blown. If the gear oil is fine and the plug is white then look elsewhere for the leak I.e. fly side seal or carb etc.

i got a few drops out tilting it on its side with the filler screw taken out earlier to see if it smelt like petrol - wouldn't say it smelt like petrol but it didnt exactly smell like gear oil either :\

i'll check the plug now, but its usually mostly black with the very centre bit being brown

when the crank housing cracks it burns gear oil in the same way a blown drive side seal does, so always check when replacing seal or you'll give yourself a fuck load more work.
