    A variety of questions :S

Post by Axiom on Mon Oct 08, 2012 4:38 am

Went to fill up my Scooter, got to the pump and when I started filling it it sort of clicked and the litres didn't go up. Although I could get a little out if I was extremely gentle on the handle. After a while of gentle pressure slowly getting a little out it started to work properly ish. I put 3 litres in according to the screen but felt like I had put more in, My scooter was in the red and when I looked in the tank it looked fairly low. I thought I was going to have to pup about 5 litres in at least. I could have probably got one more litre in before it was full. Basically can the screen lie to me? I went ahead and put the correct amount of 2 stroke in and paid. I was worried that I wouldn't have put enough 2 stroke in if the screen lied? Would I know if I didn't put enough in? I was riding for about 30 mins and seemed fine.

Lastly after filling up the scooter it didn't start first time, took about 7 kicks. Then when it was going it died again twice. I did get it going eventually and idling, does anyone know why this may have happened? Thanks and sorry it's a long post.

Also scooter had leaked from near the gear box drain plug, not sure why as screw was really tight. When I took the scooter out the shifting seemed a little sticky at first, then got better.

If the nozzle of the fuel pump touches the existing petrol in your tank it will do the click, make sure you dont stick it too far in as it won't work like you have experienced. (Well, I'm think I'm right.)
By the sounds of it you was at the petrol station a little while messing with the petrol?
If so and the engine wasn't full warm then it could have cooled down and then wouldn't want to start? Did you use choke trying to get it going again? Sure the ignition was on? May sound a little still but sometimes these things just happen.

If I was you I'd leave it till morning and kick it over, see how many kicks it takes with choke ofc.
Then report back, it's either 1-2 kicks.

as josh said regarding the fuel pump, also the petrol station readings won't lie - petrol companies are thieving gits as it is, they wont let any go for free

sometimes if you've just filled up it can be crap petrol getting into the carb, but try it again tomoro to be sure

Thanks guys for putting my mind at rest Smile I think you are right about the pump, it does make sense especially since when I lifted it up it seemed to work Razz And yes Josh I will take it to 6th Form in the morning and report back when I get home.

All was okay when I left this morning and when I came home, must have just been one of those things I reckon.

good news well done fixing and josh is right if you put pump in too far it notices a back pressure on the pump and cuts it out but no litres come out pump an it doesnt go up on screen and as jake said it was more than likely crap in carb as you said it was near enough empty and dont go in for petrol if you see the tanker in there or just left as when it puts it in the thing it slushes all petrol about in were it goes in putting crap into the pumps Very Happy

Some times you can just simply get shit fuel, don't really notice it in cars. But in carb fed scooters it can make a difference. Also, you did turn your fuel off?

    Sound.
Glad to hear all is well buddy.
I only use the non-supermarket petrol stations, but it's still easy to get a bad batch of fuel at BP etc.

if the float gives way, then it will just all piss out on the floor and theres all your petrol lost. I turn mine off when i'm parked somewhere for long
