    Hello from the States!

Post by West on Thu Jan 10, 2013 10:49 pm

Hey- new mod here. I'm India and I'm 15. I live in New York City
and from what I've seen, there aren't many mods here, unfortunately.
Or at least, I haven't found anyone yet.

I guess I'm here because I don't really seem to fit into my shit generation
(if you kind of get what I'm saying). So yeah- it's nice to meet all of you lovelies.

    Cheers,
    -India

Hellow and welcome to the forum.

I know a guy who owns a lambretta and runs a bit of scooter club in NYC.

What kind of tunes do you like? I hear the record hunting is good in NYC?

Cool! I doubt I'd be allowed to ride though (the only scooter I've ever ridden was a Razor- which if you know the brand, is one that you have to kick yourself)

I'm into The Who, The Yardbirds, some more psychadelic stuff too- y'know, like 'Floyd.

    And yourself?

(By the way: do you prefer Vespas or Lambrettas? I'm undecided)

Gotta agree with you there- Lambretta's have a real charm.
(Like they're straight out of some Italian romance movie.)

I haven't really gotten into soul so much yet, but I'd like to!
Same goes for R&B. Have any suggestions, loves?

I'm jordan if you haven't guessed...

As for soul, if you like stuff like the who and the yardbirds you might like a few of these.

The Vibrations - Cause Your Mine
Jo Armstead - I Feel Am Urge Coming On
Major Lance - You Dont Want Me No More
Dee Dee Sharp - What Kind Of Lady
The Young Hearts - A Little Toghetherness

These are some of my favourites at the moment. Ps if you could find any of them in a record store that would be great lol!

Oh how silly of me. tongue I should have guessed from your username. I'll definitely give those a good listen. (And I could probably head downtown to Generation Records. They have a really nice selection most of the time, but they might be pricey.)

What kinds of record stores do you have there in the UK?

TBH we have a few decent record stores in the big cities, but we don't have smaller ones any more. Ive jest read a lot of stories of people digging in new York for records finding lots of good stuff cheap. But all the well known stuff
Like them won't be found too cheap, not all them are mega money, but not cheap.

Fantastic. I've only been to the UK once- over the summer we visited London because my mother had a conference to go to. (Both of my parents are suits :/)

And yeah- if you know where to look you can find some real treasures. I was digging around during a street fair
and got an old Rolling Stones album in really great condition for only $9

(speaking of which, i just learned how to play Wild Horses on guitar yesterday)
