    Small end bearing issue?

Post by Axiom on Thu Apr 04, 2013 5:42 am

I have a Vespa T5 MK1, in the process of changing top end. Get to the smalle end bearing and find that the size is too big? the inner size is correct as it fits on fine but the outer size is too big as it wont go in the crank. I ordered the 16mm although what I got was different to the picture? Please help

I found the bearing on a french website, it is the only place on the internet that sells my bearing (no joke). Even though it cost me about £30 for the fucker the deliver should only take a few days and it cheaper than a new crank.

eh? AFAIK there aren't any cranks interchangeable T5. Shorter stroke and a different taper on the flywheel confused

Some one may have put a Japanese or another con rod on as they can be stronger than the original items. However, not sure why they would on a standard T5, any packer plates?

A packer plate is a plate that sits on the base of the cylinder, you use it to correct the port timings if you fit a long stroke crank or longer rod.

Japanese ones are used alot because they are high quality and made to survive in much more powerful two stroke bikes, they also tend to have the correct pin sizes on the small end and big end.

Do you have a link to the bearing you ordered?

Maybe they used a rod from that bike for a repair or they were fitted from new as they sourced locally produced parts?

I honestly think it was fitted as standard like you said considering it seems like the engine has never been touched

Ive used them bearings before. I use them as smallframe conversions for 16mm pins
Bit random seeing as its being used on a T5 crank scratch

I would have thought a local bearing supplier could have sourced one with the dimensions you needed?

I can only guess they used a locally made rod on the crank when they made the scooter?
