need help + also information on a pk

Post by JackC on Mon Jan 09, 2012 6:36 am

I am probably going to be buying a pk50 sometime soon, thinking of offering £600 for one which was for sale on ebay for 750 but no one bidded, just want to know like what's the deal with the oil mixing and how fast they go and how to change gear and stuff like that really, i have no knowledge on scooters just getting into scooter scene now Smile

Standard 50 should do 30 but a better pipe will get you a bit quicker Smile

With the oil I just fill up and then put as much oil in as needed (2% for standard engines)

Gear changes you'll gt used to really easy, clutch in select gear ease clutch out and bring up throttle Smile repeat Smile

When mixing oil, when you fill up remember to leave some room for oil. It's easy to brim the tank and nit leave enough room for the oil. You can get measuring jug so you mix the right amount, as Jamie said its 2% on any standard vespa.

They will do 30, but they have the potential to do a lot more as there are so many cylinder kits and exhausts.

The standard oil mix is 2% so 100ml of petrol 2ml of oil...

    So 1 litre = 20ml

Standard PK tank is just under 5 litres so you want 100ml of oil Smile

EDIT: BTW doesn't have to be SUPER accurate Smile

Yep just depends on model where they mount Smile Later XL2's had the big chunky headset where they mount on top or they mount underneath with a bracket (easy to get off fleabay)

The knob under the seat is the choke which helps you start the engine when its cold Smile pull the choke out and kick it over and when it starts you can usually push it in after a min or two Smile

Yes you will be able to get a wing mirror, they ain't that great as they vibrate.

When you start it, you have to turn the fuel on which is what one of the knobs are and the other is the choke, which is for cold starting.

Can't think of anything, other than rear brake is on the floor rather than handle bars as that is the clutch. You probably knew that.

Check that the frame/engine numbers match on the frame, chassis plate and the V5.

Make sure the scoot starts from cold and stays running when warm Smile

I didn't know that, I thought that was the clutch on the floor haha shows how much I know, and the one I'm looking at was rebuilt in october, will the frame and engine number still match?

as long as they match whats in the log book that's all that matters Wink I've had about three different engines in my current scoot. It won't affect the value if the engine isn't the original, unless it's a 'rare/vintage/collectors model' and you're a boring cunt.

Make sure the numbers are nice and clear too. It's worth an offer at 600 imo, its not the cheapest but if its ready to go without to much pissing around.

I paid £750 for mine, to be honest got a bit ripped off as its a bit of a shed with plenty of bodges, but it runs and doesn't look too bad Smile £600 should get you a decent scoot Smile

You could still go see it.. Then you at least have a bench mark on to what to judge any other bikes by..

Also, when you see it don't be afraid to haggle, if you see something wrong let him know and it helps convince that you're offering fair Smile
