Vespa F.A. Italia 5 Gear Kit

Post by 2ToneJake on Thu Jan 19, 2012 5:26 am

does anyone have any experience of the newer F.A. Italia 5 Gear Kits for Vespas on SIP? i read somewhere they fitted one to a 210 motor and didnt have any issues with it (i know a lotta people had bad experiences with the ones from the 80's, but these are apparently thicker) - was thinking of putting one in the Armando's project

They're alot of money for not a lot of gain especially on a 125 block/ pinasco kit IMO. Plus if the other FA stuff is to go by they won't be much kop

i was thinking it'd be good for just cruising for long stretches when goin to the rallies cos you can sit at low revs going faster

what's wrong with the other F.A. stuff, i've never used anything from them

Scooters are overgeared as standard.. thats why a T5 4th is a common upgrade
you put a 5 speed on yours It will full on run out of steam when changing to 5th. I reckon you'll spend alot of the time keeping it in 4th, in which case there would be no point at all
but hey....you go ahead and spend your gold on it and tell me wrong

You need a pretty pokey engine to pull tall gears
Why dont you get a 100/90/10 tyre instead just to upgear it ?

i was just thinking for keeping revs low at high speeds

are those tyres much bigger? would i not need a spacer on the rear hub?

what about the malossi and polini primary drive up gear kits?

But its keeping it in 5th that's the problem, you won't he able too into the wind and will really struggle.

yea but i could always change down into 4th if its hard going - and if it's really windy i won;t be going too fast anyway

i'm really considering it, but i'd like to hear some other peoples experience with it first - i read somewhere that sip ran it on a 210 and it was fine, but i want more than 1 verdict

If yer want a fairly fast low revs cruiser, why don't you just get a P2 lump - for the price of the 177 kit and the 5 speed box you could buy one and drop it in...
