How much should I pay for a Vespa?

Post by Baxter.17 on Fri Mar 02, 2012 1:10 am

Im completely new to Scooters, This will be my first one, However I know I dont want Nothing later than the 90's, Must be Running. Doesn't have to be in perfect nick, But a decent enough to ride about on. I will do it up as I go along if it needs bits and bob's done to it.
Looking for one as cheap as possible, Possibly under a grand, As much as possible under a grand if thats possible. What could I get one in that sort for?
    Also what Types are cheaper?
    Cheers guys.

keep looking about and something will turn up. dont rush in to buying..cause 90% of the time it will end up being a shitter

The name vespa Douglas is a bit missleading, Douglas were a vespa importer and produced a few models in the 50's however these are fairly rare and just about every vespa you see in this country is made in Italy. So I'd ignore the fact many are listed as a vespa Douglas.

You can pick up a PX125 fairly cheap, from 700 quid needing work, looking tatty and without mot. Prices tend to range from 700-1500 depending on condition. A T5 is another option, very fast engine. But cost more your be looking about 900-1700.

best age px disc are between 2001 and 2003 i think, before they started sticking catalytic converters on them,

this sort of age, you probably won't get many problems or rust issues depending on where its been stored.

any sort of much older than that may be more tatty etc,

my saying is - you get what you pay for at the end of the day,

for a grand you should get a spot on scoot,

anything less and its gunna be hit and miss, where you might get one for around 750 but then end up spending a couple of hundred quid changing and putting a few things right

thanks for the opinions and help lads, Really helping me out here. Im really looking into a Douglas or PX125, As I said I dont need it to be in perfect nick and Ill fix bits and bobs that need fixing as I go along, even if it costs me a few hundred quid extra in the long run atleast Ill have what Ive been wanting for a while now. Smile
My old man has a few mates who buys them and fixes them up so ill have to get my old man to have a word with one of them, See if they have anything decent for about a grand laying about that way I wont get ripped off.
Im just glad that I have enough to pick atleast something up! Smile
