Is the carb new? What's the jetting on it?

That would be my first port of call, I guess it won't start without some throttle? At a guess its running rich but a way to check this is to back off the throttle and turn on the choke. If its runs with the choke its lean, if it dies its rich.

the carb is used and the main jet is 82 when i let off the throttle it dies completely its really doing my head in and i don't know what rich or lean is im a first timer i sort of tough myself how to put the cylinder and all the rest on..

Rich and lean as in how much fuel is getting into the cylinder. The choke adds more fuel, so will richen the mix.

In your carb, you will have an idle jet - this controls how it it idles you will need to check what's fitted to yours. But first you need to check if its lean or rich.

Main jet is miles too big.
    Check for air leaks.
This means checking that everything is tight!
Manifold, the carb on the manifold, the cylinder head and the exhaust.

Yeah that would be the next step, mine was having a similar problem. solved with a simple change of jets.
