Post by Axiom on Fri May 04, 2012 10:11 am

Just brought a Vespa T5 MK1, not sure if it has a real T5 engine. What should I do?

if you have a look on the engine at the serial number and type it into here it'll tell you what you got

Please can you post an intro about your self in intro section Wink

Another way would be to take the barrel off and see if it has 5 transfer ports...

Just had a though, T5 fly wheels are different, just compare yours to photos of a PX one and a T5 one.

First way to check is if it has a centre plug head...

Well I have a engine number if that helps? I can't get to the scoot right now but the engine number is 98m then 4 numbers. What's a centre plug head also?

If you look at the engine , there is the black plastic cylinder cowling. Underneath you obviously have the cylinder and head. centre plug head is as it says on the tin...a cylinder head with a spark plug centrally in the middle.

on the likes of px125,200 the spark plug is off central to the side

    http://youngguns.team-talk.net/t149-my-t5-some-pics-updated

This is my T5 mk1, it has the square headlight, smooth front mud guard and square rear body.
The T5 mk2 is pretty much the same, but has an anolog rev counter and some other minor differences.

Teres the T5 classic, which is basically a PX with a T5 engine and a few other difference like floor mats etc.

If you don't have a T5 engine you'll either have a PX125, PX150 or PX200 in it. T5 engines are very good, fast, reliable and very revy. A PX engine is good, but not as fast unless its a P200.

There could be, but without seeing the engine its hard to tell. Post some pictures up, and have a look at your flywheel and where your spark plug is too.

Another way of checking is taking the head cowling off, a T5 barrel looks like this.. http://www.ekmpowershop2.com/ekmps/shops/readspeed/images/dsc01420.jpg

And a PX barrel looks like this.

Is it badged as T5 or TX? I thought it looked like a moto vespa engine number, if its badged as T5 it should have a proper T5 engine it, unless some one has swapped it.

Yes, if you go on the website i showed you and type in the full number it'll tell you

    http://www.scooterhelp.com/serial/ves.motor.serial.numbers.html

if you only have the prefix it should read VNX5M if it's a T5

all vespa engine numbers start with a V

next time you get to the scoot have a look under the engine and give it a clean so you got the full number and then try it in that site Smile

Jake its a motovespa, which means its been made in Spain. So these have a different prefix Wink

It SHOULD be a proper T5, unless some one has messed about with it.

if it felt fast it probably wasnt a px125 lol Razz

i just though aswell, a real T5 engine has studs coming out the engine for the exhaust, thats a simple one to look for
