check the underside of the casings for a crack or chip - especially round the 2 halves meet - if theres a crack you can get some welding paste that should seal it

i dont know small frame engines that well - if they have a selector box that bolts on like the large frames it might be the gasket there

but like i said i dunno if smallies have a selector box like that

Get the piston rings in, start the engine and see if it seals it self up like josh said on the fb page mate

It's not unusual for vespa engines to drip a bit of oil now and again. It's more of a mild annoyance than anything else, so long as you keep your oil topped up every few months (tho you should check this as a matter of course anyway). However if you find that overnight there is a pool of gear oil rather than a 5-10p size drip-patch, then it is something that needs sorting. The most likely culprits for any oil leak, and their remedies are:

1.) damaged, worn or wrong oil seal - replace
2.) damaged mating surfaces/gaskets - replace the gasket and/or use a bit of silicon gasket sealer
3.) case halves unevenly tightened together - slacken off the case nuts and use a torque wrench at even intervals to re-tighten them (in the same way you'd do wheel nuts)
4.) gearbox over filled with oil - self explanitory

    HTH

    Wal

Just had a quick look under the gear changer and it is dripping oil from the centre of it , well thats where the oil is leaking off but could also be behind it , how do you take these off??? , do you have to take the pin out first?

    Hi Keiran
The straight answer to that is that the O-ring for the gear selector needs replacing

Now for the really gash part.
The engine needs splitting, take out the gearbox gubbins.
on the selector underneath the casing there is a taper pin holding it on, you have to heat it and punch it out.....Make sure not to punch it the wrong way as it will make it a cuntier job.
Once out , take it off then you can take out the hole actuating arm. inside the whole is the O-ring

    Nice start Keiran
Look at the pin, generally the part thats sticking out the most should be the biggest side, so that means tapping it out from the other side. The access to it can be a bit difficult.

Using a heat gun to expand it can help with removing the pin when using a punch
