My like first post about my scooter.

Post by JamesD on Fri Jun 15, 2012 2:25 am

Right, when my scooter is cold it starts fairly easy. But when it's warm it wont kick over at all and i have to bump start it...

    Any suggestions?

Is that with or without the choke on?

with and without, it shouldn't need the choke to kick over when i've only had it switched off 2 minutes when i fill up for petrol for example

My T5 prefers to start with the choke on... But I had problems with it starting, and where the fuel pipe joined the carb had come looee and when warm it couldn't suck enough fuel in when kicking it over. But would start when bumped.

I'd check the electrics - starting with the plug, cap, lead, CDI, then resistance values on the stator as these can weaken when the scoot warms up.

Actually first, I'd check if the plug is wet or dry. As that'll tell you where the problem is...

Good place to start. Could well be a clogged carb - the jets and air filter do tend to get clogged over time. Take off the filter (you'll need to remember to remove the idle screw as well as the normal 2 bolts on the T5 to get it off) and the idle jet and main stack and soak them in a bit of petrol.

You seriously can't fuck up cleaning a carb, especially if you're not taking the carb off. Undo 2 screws, take off the carb top. Undo 2 more screws and the idle screw. Then take out the jets (another 2 screws) soak the filter and jets in petrol, then reverse and re-set the idle screw (tighten right in, then 2-3 turns out)

    Done

Sorry wal, I thought you meant replace the plug. But it really is simple to clean a carb. What do you mean by plug is fine?
