    Koso Rev Counter Wiring

Post by 2ToneJake on Fri Jun 22, 2012 12:35 am

treated meself to one of them Koso rev counters off sip and its landed today, but the instructions are confusing me to hell

1 second its telling you to wrap the wire round the HT lead and the next its telling you to take it straight off the positive on the coil - anyone had any experience with wiring one of these cos i'm a bit lost off atm

also, on a PX disc what colour wire on the ignition barrel is the ignition on?

and do i connect the battery wire to the spare slot on the rectifier or can i just take it from the red on the ignition barrel?

    cheers

I've never wired one, but on the first step... I would think it would be an either or situation as some rev counter uses either the pulses from the ht lead or the CDI.

i've had a look at the instructions and it gives you different ways of doing it and a list of bikes that each way works best on - vespa aint on the list though :S

should i just wrap it round the HT lead 5 times like it says as the first suggestion?

As Jord says, it'll be either/or. If you want a DC feed that works with the ignition switch i.e. only on when the ignition is on, you need to take the purple wire from the rectifier (post marked "C")

I would, just check you have the correct type of plug fitted as some only work with resister plugs.

Wrap it around the HT lead. There's plenty of lammys round my way doing so just fine.

i'll wrap it round the ht lead then Very Happy

on the instructions it said i need one wire going to the battery and one to the ignition on so that it only works when the ignitions on - i was thinking that the red coming off the ignition is the battery cos thats what my stereo runs off

so if i splice into that for the battery and one from the ignition on it should be ok???

dont mean to be a douche but , why do you need one ?
your setup roughly will rev to 7500rpm give or take. only really needed for when changing up when the powers on the pipe.
for general touring you know when to change gear sooo

Personally I'd rather fit an Egt instead. Much more useful

EGT: Exhaust Gas Temperature// temperature sensor

I really doubt most people need a rev counter, but he's bought it now Shaggs, might as well fit it albino

aye just fancied a new gadget lol

i dont have any need for a egt - i dont know what the temperature of the exhaust has to do with anything, you can get them temperature sensors that go on ya spark plug, isnt that more useful than on the exhaust?

It means you can monitor your fuel-air mixture and you can check for when it is likely to go bang

the exhaust downpipe is the hottest part of the engine, the temperature changes depending on throttle opening which dictates jetting. Exhaust temps are a very important factor for a good running engine.
i.e 1/4 throttle to 1/2 temp rises 50 degree's or so ..means you up the atomizer or raise the needle ect ....I think the general temps need to be 500degree's
If that kinda makes sense. Its a bit complicated to start with but a very very good thing to learn from to get rid of flat spots , leanness ect

is the rev counter the Koso digital ?

I like the rev counter on the T5, found it handy. Used it as a Speedo as its much more accurate. Hahah
